Modern Australian Department
Please bear with us whilst we build this section
Whilst Ray Hughes Gallery was always a home for emerging talent from here or abroad, as we have grown since 1969, and with the retrospective focus of Evan Hughes, the gallery is slowly building a Modern Australian Art Department where we can look back on some of the artists who have worked with Hughes Snr over 40 years, including the likes of William Robinson and Robert MacPherson, both of whom began their exhibiting careers with the gallery whose archives provide a rich art historical source. Evan Hughes who read Art History at Cambridge University in the United Kingdom and who has an art writing background is also using the department to start focusing on a number of artists such as Molvig, Tanner, Upward and Fullbrook whose art has not been fully appreciated to date and who are all due proper attention from the public galleries in the years to come.
